CPR Course Descriptions

Special Classes are available for the Healthcare Provider, Heartsaver AED, and First Aid AHA Card Courses. A minimum of 8 students is required. Call Holly Pichette at (936) 523-1113 for more information or to schedule a class.

On site group classes available for Heartsaver CPR/AED, First Aid, and Healthcare Provider Classes.   A minimum of 8 students are required per class. 

CPR for Friends and Family

CPR for family and friends is a modular course that teaches rescuers skills in Adult/Child/ and Infant CPR and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction. It presents information about the AHA Chain of Survival and signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke and choking in adults. CPR and Choking skills are introduced, but not practiced extensively. This class is NOT a certification course.
Course Length: 3 hrs
Student handbook will be provided
Card Type: Non-certification provided
Written/Skills Exam: None
MCHD Cost: $10


BLS Healthcare Provider Course

The BLS Healthcare Provider Course teaches hands on CPR skills for the adult, child and infant, use of an automated external defibrillator (AED); and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction.
This class is designed for Healthcare providers, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician's assistants, residents or fellows, or medical or nursing students in training, aides, medical or nursing assistants, police officers, and other allied health personnel
Course Length: 4-6 hours
Healthcare Provider Textbook will be provided
Card Type: Course completion – 2 year certification
Students will be required to complete a written and skills evaluation for completion card
MCHD Cost $45 per student


Heartsaver CPR/AED Adult and/or Child/Infant Course Description

Course Description: The Heartsaver CPR/AED Course teaches the basic techniques of adult CPR and how to use an AED. Students also learn about using barrier devices in CPR and giving first aid for choking. The course teaches how to recognize the signs of four major emergencies: heart attack, stroke, cardiac arrest and foreign-body airway obstruction.
Adult CPR/AED Course Length: 3 hours
Adult/Child/Infant CPR/AED: 4-6 hrs
This course is designed for responders such as police, airline personnel, security personnel, corporate employees, family members of patients at high risk for sudden cardiac death, other rescuers, and those who need or want to learn CPR and how to operate an AED.
Heartsaver AED Textbook will be provided
Card Type: Course completion – 2 year certification
Students will be required to complete a written and skills evaluation for completion card
MCHD Cost: Adult only/$30 per student - Adult/Child/Infant $35 per student


Heartsaver First Aid

The Heartsaver First Aid Course teaches rescuers to effectively recognize and treat adult emergencies in the critical first minutes until emergency medical services personnel arrive. The course also provides a complete health and safety training solution for first aid, adult CPR and AED.
Course Length: 3 - 7 hours
This course is designed for persons assigned to respond to emergencies in the workplace or community as well as those who want to learn first aid, CPR and AED skills. Some rescuers are required to take this course as part of their employer’s efforts to comply with OSHA regulations, e.g., corporate employees, security guards, airline personnel, lifeguards and other individuals who want or need first aid training.
Heartsaver First Aid With CPR and AED textbook will be provided
Card Type: Course completion- 2 year certification
Students will be required to complete a written and skills evaluation for completion card
MCHD Cost $50 per student
