Skills Testing
The skill examination is based on the National Registry skills. Each applicant will be tested over selected skills within their level of medical training. These skills must be performed in a timely fashion demonstrating correct knowledge and technique. Although MCHD does not test every skill, the testing candidate should be able to complete every skill required of their certification level. Please use the National Registry skill sheets (linked below) as a study guide. Each candidate will also assess vital signs (a skill criteria sheet is provided below). In order to assure proper assessment, you will need to bring a watch with you to this portion of the exam.
EMT-I & Paramedic Candidates
- Supine Spinal Immobilization
- Airway Management - OPA, NPA, Suction (NPA is not tested)
- Airway Management - Oxygen Administration
- Airway Management - BVM
- Enodtracheal Intubation - Adult
- Endotracheal Intubation - Pediatric
- Patient Assessment - Vital Signs: NON NREMT
Paramedic Candidates Only
Paramedic applicants are required to successfully complete a scenario based "Megacode". Please use the current Advanced Cardiac Life Support Standards as a study tool for this portion of the examination.
Disclaimer: Since this is NOT a NREMT testing opportunity, the above skill sheets are guidelines ONLY. Skills may be combined into one station. For example, all Airway Management skills are typically combined with Endotracheal Intubation. This allows for a streamlined testing process. The intent of this testing is for new hire employee screening only and as such results are only used internally.
