Job Overview
Minimum Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age. (18-21 requires additional investigation by Districts vehicle insurance vendor)
- Must have and maintain
- TDSHS Certifications as EMT-I or EMT-P
- Class C driver’s license by the Texas Department of Public Safety
- CPR Certifications
- ACLS and Pre-hospital and Basic Trauma Life Support (EMT-P)
- Ability to lift, carry, and balance 100 lbs
- Ability to bend, swoop, crouch, and crawl on uneven terrain
- Pass physical/medical examination and drug screening
General Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)
- Responds to assignments from emergency medical dispatchers
- Determines nature and extent of illness or injury to establish first aid procedures, basing decisions on statements of persons involved, findings in the physical assessment of victim or victims, and correctly uses knowledge of emergency medical practice
- Adheres to the policies and medical protocols
- Maintains station in an orderly and clean fashion
- Maintains Unit in an orderly and clean fashion and restocks unit after each call.

Application Processing Overview
Applications are accepted Monday through Friday, 8:30a.m. - 5:00a.m. at the Human Resources Department or at http://www.mchd-tx.org/emp_app.cfm
Following submission of an employment application, the application will be critiqued to verify that the candidate is eligible. If candidate fails to meet requirements or provides false statements, it may result in immediate disqualification of the employment process. If the applicant is determined eligible, they will receive a letter informing them of the date, time and location of the examination.
After the examination portion of the hiring process, an offer for employment is made contingent upon the passing of a pre-employment drug test; driving record check and criminal background check.

Testing Process
This entrance examination consists of four parts. Each part must be completed so that the applicant may be considered for employment with MCHD. Please be sure to dress appropriately for each section of the testing process. The components of the new hire testing process include:
- A general knowledge examination based on applicant’s certification level
- A skills examination based on applicant’s skill level
- A physical agility evaluation universal to all field applicants
- An Interview
